Frisian is a West Germanic language spoken by approximately 500,000 people, primarily in the northern region of the Netherlands known as Friesland. It is also spoken in a few areas of Germany. The language has three main dialects: West Frisian, Saterlandic, and North Frisian.

Despite its relatively small number of speakers, Frisian has a rich cultural tradition. Many Frisian musical artists have gained popularity for their use of the language in their music. One of the most popular is De Kast, a band that formed in the 1990s and has released several albums in Frisian. Other notable Frisian musicians include Nynke Laverman, Piter Wilkens, and the band Reboelje.

There are also several radio stations in Friesland that broadcast primarily in Frisian. The most popular is Omrop Fryslân, which provides news, music, and cultural programming in the language. Other radio stations that broadcast in Frisian include Radio Eenhoorn, Radio Stad Harlingen, and Radio Markant.
