Asturian is a Romance language spoken in the Principality of Asturias, a region located in the north of Spain. It is one of the co-official languages of the region and has around 100,000 speakers. The language has been in use for centuries, and it has a rich literary tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages.

Asturian has several dialects, including Eonavian, Western Asturian, Central Asturian, and Eastern Asturian. Despite the dialectal differences, the language has a unified spelling system, which was created in the 1980s.
