Tilos Rádió is a nonprofit radio station in Budapest. The program producers have the most diverse civilian occupations, perhaps the fewest among them are journalists and media professionals. The radio's listenership is not exactly known, but Tilos Rádió has been included in several public opinion surveys examining radio listening habits in recent years. Based on this, the Tilos student population is constantly increasing and has 30,000 students on a daily basis, and more than 100,000 unique students on a monthly basis. Most of the programs are based on student participation, and an integral element of the editing is the active cooperation between callers and program producers. This is true not only for talk shows that use interaction as a content element, but also for thematic magazines and some music programs. Participatory radio broadcasting, previously unusual in domestic media practice, was introduced in Hungary by Tilos. The completely open, informal interactivity creates a situation unknown in the media, in which each listener can be the star of the show just like the presenter. In Tilos Rádio, the listener is not necessarily a passive target of the programs, but mostly has the opportunity to actively shape the direction of the programs, although of course not at the same level as the presenter.
