The radio channel is NRK's first broadcasting channel. It has its origins all the way back to when the private Kringkastingsselskapet A/S started regular radio broadcasts in 1925.
When Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) was established in 1933, the channel continued as the only nationwide broadcasting channel, until NRK Television started regular broadcasts in 1960.
