Alternative music on the radio in Uganda

In recent years, alternative genre music has gained traction in Uganda. This musical genre is making a name for itself among young people as well as music lovers across the country. Alternative music covers a broad spectrum from rock, punk, indie, metal and experimental sounds. One of the most popular alternative bands in Uganda is The Mith, an alternative hip hop group. They have been making music for over a decade and have undoubtedly left a mark on the alternative music scene. The Mith represents an entirely new and exciting aspect of alternative hip hop music in Uganda, fusing traditional Ugandan sounds with more modern ones. Radio stations such as 106.1 Jazz FM, 88.2 Sanyu FM, and 90.4 Dembe FM have taken it upon themselves to promote alternative music a lot recently. They have dedicated shows that exclusively play alternative music to cater for this growing audience. Another group that has made a name for themselves within the alternative music space is Nihiloxica, a fusion of East African percussion instruments and heavy techno music, promoting Ugandan genre music to the world. A prominent figure in the Ugandan alternative music scene is Suzan Kerunen. She creates original music with her acoustic guitar, sometimes bolstered by a full band. Her unique sound is an infusion of pop-jazz and neo-soul. The underground music scene in Uganda is ripe with musicians creating diverse, authentic and unique sounds, paving the way for an alternative music scene that is fast becoming a staple in the Ugandan music industry. In conclusion, Uganda's alternative music scene is rapidly growing, slowly breaking away from mainstream pop and hip-hop music, with radio stations leading the way through their choice of music played. The emergence and popularity of bands like The Mith, Nihiloxica and individual artists like Suzan Kerunen, are making Ugandan alternative genre music the next big thing on the African music scene.
