Classical music has a rich history in Peru, dating back to the 18th century when Spanish colonizers brought their music traditions to the region. Indigenous and African musical influences also contributed to the evolution of classical music in Peru. Peru boasts several outstanding classical music artists, including the internationally renowned conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya, who is the music director of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the principal conductor of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Another famous artist is pianist Teodoro Valcárcel, who is known for his interpretation of Peruvian classical music and has won numerous awards for his compositions. Other notable classical musicians are soprano Sylvia Falcón and cellist Raúl García Zárate. Several radio stations in Peru cater to classical music enthusiasts, including Radio UANCV, which broadcasts classical music 24/7 from its studios in Arequipa. Another popular station is Radio Filarmonía, which has been broadcasting a wide range of classical music programs for more than 25 years.
