Blues music on the radio in India

Despite being predominantly rooted in African-American culture, the blues genre has been embraced by many around the world, including India. With a rich history spanning back to the early 20th century, the blues has found a home in India, with musicians and radio stations keeping the genre alive. Over the years, there have been several Indian blues musicians who have made waves in the Indian music scene. One such artist is Soulmate, a blues rock band from Shillong, Meghalaya, who won the Best Indian Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in 2012. In terms of radio stations playing blues music in India, listeners can tune in to stations such as Radio City 91.1 FM, which hosts a weekly blues show called The Blues Room. The show plays a mix of classic and contemporary blues music, as well as interviews with Indian and international blues musicians. Other stations, such as Radio One 94.3 FM, also feature blues music in their programming, showcasing the popularity and reach of the genre in India. Despite not being as widely appreciated as other music genres in India, the blues scene in India has a strong following and continues to grow, with more and more artists emerging and radio stations giving the genre airtime.
