Canada has a rich tradition of classical music, with a vibrant and diverse classical music scene. Some of the most popular classical musicians in Canada include violinist James Ehnes, pianist Angela Hewitt, and cellist Shauna Rolston. The National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra are some of the most prominent classical ensembles in the country.
In addition to these established institutions, there are also a number of independent classical music groups and festivals across Canada. For example, the Ottawa Chamberfest, the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and the Stratford Festival all regularly feature classical music performances.
As for radio stations playing classical music, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) operates two classical music radio stations: CBC Radio 2 and CBC Music. These stations feature a wide range of classical music programming, from early music to contemporary classical, and also provide coverage of live classical music events across the country. Other radio stations in Canada that feature classical music programming include Classical 96.3 FM in Toronto and CKUA Radio Network in Alberta.
