For a long time, WDR 4 was purely a Schlager radio station and only Schlager and German light music from all genres was played, from oldie hits to modern hits, party hits and folk music. From 6 p.m., classical music such as operettas could also be heard. Since March 2011, WDR 4 has been developing from pop to oldie radio. The proportion of international titles is now 85%. The transmitter was started on January 1, 1984 as the fourth radio program of West German Broadcasting and expanded on January 1, 1985 to the full program.
