The radio station broadcast its first program in 1982, but the station was still illegal at that time. At this time, the radio station was located on the industrial estate of Maaseik. The channel was officially established in 1983 and then went under the name "De Vrije Vogel". At that time, the Joosten brothers took care of the development of the radio station and the radio station moved to the Weertersteenweg in Maaseik. With the establishment of a non-profit organization in 1983, the radio began to grow into a solid Local Radio.
