Radio Casamentos Nos Quilombos

The history of civil marriage in Brazil began with the Republic, with the then head of the Provisional Government Marechal Deodoro da Fonseca. It was on January 24, 1890 that decree number 181 came into force. On Civil Marriage Day, this right completes 123 years and is cause for reflection. The split arrived in 1916, with the Civil Code. It was 61 years later, in 1977, that a constitutional amendment explicitly used the word divorce for the first time.
