Traditional in Ribeirão Preto and region, Radio 79 has been on the air for over 60 years and was granted by the Federal Government to a group of citizens belonging to the PTB, by the then President of the Republic Getúlio Dornelles Vargas. At that time, the city of Ribeirão Preto had only one station, PRA 7, which had a highly influential program known as the “Centro de Debates Culturais”. Getúlio appointed his Chief of Security, Gregório Fortunato, to proceed with the bureaucratic procedures with the competent ministries, and thus, the station went on air on December 22, 1953 and became the other voice of the community. Some time later, a group of merchants belonging to the ACI - Associação Comercial e Industrial de Ribeirão Preto decided to buy the quotas of the members of the board of Rádio 79, which became known by its prefix ZYR-79, in the medium waves and ZYR - 92 on tropical waves, international free channels. Later, the station's employees were invited to buy Radio 79's shares and take over its management, and that was how, for more than twenty years, the station was under the responsibility of its employees. After this period, the board became a group of educators who currently seek the best content for listeners of the traditional Rádio 79.
