K-pop is a South Korean genre of music that is influenced by pop, jazz, hip-hop, and reggae. It emerged in the early 90s and since then its popularity has increased exponentially like never before. K-pop has managed to create a cultural movement around Korea worldwide, and especially with great force in Latin America, which was previously an unknown market for South Korean artists. Costa Rica was no exception to the influence of the 'new' genre. Even today, the country has a K-Pop station, called "K-pop Hit", which broadcasts live via the Internet 24 hours a day.
