Since May 1996, more than 30 series of events have been broadcast in the city of Pulheim at irregular intervals. In January 2007, Jan Lüghausen, long-time program manager of Radio Central and Central FM, applied to the State Chancellery of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the State Media Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia (LfM) for a permanent VHF frequency in downtown Pulheim. It took two years to plan and coordinate the 92.0 MHz VHF frequency with 50 watts omnidirectional. On December 3, 2008, the North Rhine-Westphalia Media Authority (LfM) advertised this capacity for private radio broadcasting in Pulheim. The level of awareness of the Central FM brand and the program and music format that was successfully tested from November 25 to December 1, 2008 in the planned transmission area for the Pulheim Barbara Market underlined the application by the Pulheim radio makers. Founded in April 2009, Central FM Media GmbH was well advised in advance by the North Rhine-Westphalia Media Authority (LfM) and incorporated the large number of programme-related conditions into the nationwide approval. With a decision dated May 25, 2009, Central FM received the license as a nationwide full radio program.
