Classical music on the radio in Rwanda

Classical music has a rich history in Rwanda, with a range of artists and radio stations dedicated to this timeless genre. Some of the most popular artists include the Rwandan National Symphony Orchestra, founded in 2010, which is made up of over 50 young musicians who perform both classical and traditional African music. Another notable artist is the solo pianist Kizito Mihigo, who blends traditional Rwandan melodies with classical music. In addition to live performances, there are several radio stations in Rwanda that broadcast classical music. This includes Radio Rwanda, the country's public radio station, which airs classical music programs throughout the week. Other notable radio stations that play classical music include Radio Isango Star and Flash FM. Despite the popularity of classical music in Rwanda, the genre still faces some challenges in gaining mainstream recognition. One of the main obstacles is the limited availability of funding and resources for classical music education and performances. However, the continued growth of dedicated artists and radio stations is helping to promote classical music as an important cultural tradition in Rwanda.
