One of the most prominent classical music artists in Jamaica is Alexander Shaw, a baritone who has performed with the New York Metropolitan Opera and the Royal Opera House in London. He is highly regarded for his interpretations of songs and arias from operas such as Don Giovanni, La Boheme and Carmen. There is also the Jamaica Symphony Orchestra which was formed in 1944, it is the country's oldest orchestra and has been able to provide many opportunities for local musicians to perform in classical music concerts. The group is made up of both professional and amateur musicians and attracts a loyal following of classical music lovers.
