Shoegaze is a subgenre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom in the late 1980s. It is characterized by ethereal vocals, heavily distorted guitars, and a strong emphasis on atmosphere and texture. The term "shoegaze" was coined in reference to the performers' tendency to stare at their effects pedals during live performances.

Some of the most popular shoegaze artists include My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, and Ride. My Bloody Valentine's album "Loveless" is often cited as one of the most influential shoegaze albums of all time, with its use of guitar effects and layered vocals setting the standard for the genre.

Other notable shoegaze bands include Lush, Cocteau Twins, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. Many of these bands were associated with the British independent record label Creation Records, which played a significant role in popularizing the shoegaze sound.

In recent years, shoegaze has seen a resurgence in popularity, with newer bands such as DIIV, Beach House, and Nothing carrying on the tradition of dreamy, atmospheric rock music.

If you're a fan of shoegaze, there are several radio stations that cater to the genre. Some of the most popular stations include Shoegaze Radio, Shoegaze and Dreampop Radio, and DKFM Shoegaze Radio. These stations play a mix of classic and contemporary shoegaze, as well as related genres like dream pop and post-punk.

Whether you're discovering the genre for the first time or are a long-time fan, shoegaze offers a unique and immersive listening experience that is beloved by many.
